How to Shop Promo Codes & Coupons on Amazon

With its endless array of products and the convenience of prime shipping, Amazon is a shopper’s paradise. But few people know that there are hidden ways to save BIG while shopping on Amazon with  promo codes and coupons.  Whether you’re shopping for clothing, home goods, or electronics, these discounts can be a game-changer for your budget.

What are promo codes?

Promo codes are alphanumeric codes that offer hidden discounts on select products on Amazon.  These codes aren’t available to the general public.  Instead, Amazon and its vendors share these codes behind-the-scenes with influencers and other marketing partners.

Here’s a recent promo code from my Instagram stories.

The best way to find and use these codes is to follow @luluprime_ on Instagram.  Each day, I share dozens of deals with special promo codes in my stories.  If you’re not on Instagram, you can also subscribe to my Daily Deal newsletter here.

How do I use promo codes?

If you shop through the links in my Instagram stories and newsletter, the promo codes should automatically apply at checkout.  If a code doesn’t apply on its own for some reason, you can also type the code in manually at check out.

Make sure you’re logged into your Amazon account and that you don’t have any other items in your cart.  If you’re not logged in or have multiple items in your cart, the code may not work.

Also, it’s important to note: these codes apply at checkout only–not in cart.  The discount will not appear when viewing the item in your cart. You must click “proceed to checkout” to see the discounted price.

Before clicking “proceed to checkout”

Finally, keep in mind that promo codes often apply for limited times and can be subject to certain restrictions.  For example, most promo codes are limited to one per account.  And in some instances, vendors limit the code to select sizes or colors.

If you’re curious about the specific details of a particular code, check out the terms and conditions on the promotion page.

What are coupons?

Coupons are opt-in discounts that shoppers can select when browsing a product on Amazon.  Unlike promo codes, coupons are publicly available.  If a listing has an active coupon, it will show up right below the listed price.  But note:  you often need to select a size and/or color for the coupon to appear!

Coupons stack on top of promo codes, delivering double the savings to shoppers (more on that below).

Before selecting a size — no coupon

After selecting a size — coupon appears

How do I use coupons?

Another key difference between coupons and promo codes is how they’re applied.  While promo codes automatically apply at checkout, coupons do not

You must click the box next to the coupon for the discount to apply.  And like promo codes, the price shown will not adjust until you click “proceed to checkout.”

Can I use both a promo code and a coupon at the same time?

YES! And this is where the real savings magic kicks in.  Promo codes and coupons stack on top of each other.  That means that if a product has a 50% promo code and a 20% coupon, the combined discount is 70%. I share “double-stacked” deals like these all the time over on my Instagram stories and in my newsletter.  So be sure to follow or subscribe.

Is there anything else I should know?

The most important thing to remember is that both promo codes and coupons are extremely time sensitive and subject to change.  Vendors raise prices or end discounts all the time. Products also sell out quickly.  If you see something you want, don’t wait; it might not be there when you come back. And don’t forget to turn on post notifications if you never want to miss a deal!
